I never paid much attention to the amount of time I spend on my desk top verses my handheld and then it hit me. Google is not a sure thing anymore. Here are my thoughts, which of course may not matter.
My little 5 year girl shows her daddy how to talk on a Ipod. I of course being 41 have no idea that this can be done. I understand you can on an Iphone but an Ipod? Yes if you're as clueless as me it can be done. The WIFI network in my house and places around the world allows my 5 year old's Ipod to use Skype and/or a built in Apple app called Facetime. Not only can the young child call her grandmother but she gets calls from her friends.
Google was never brought up when I asked her how she used the computer. She said daddy I have an Ipod and I want an Ipad someday. Why would I need to sit at a desk? "I can go outside and play get sun and play games or what ever I want right in my hand" , she says. "Daddy every thing you want is an app away". This girl is smart and I have known that for sometime now but I never would have believed that Facebook, Club Penguin and Itunes would matter more than the Google search engine, the thing kids can teach you.
Google if you can hear me, the kids may be telling us you matter less and less. Google may become like the old Yellow pages, in a kitchen drawer somewhere you pull out when you need to find a number of Pizza hut. Unless you have a handheld and you can just order a pizza online in less than a few minutes.
Google I am sure already knows this and is in a panic to matter in the future.
Just my thoughts,
Todd
